As part of a global effort to slow down climate change, The Adani Group has committed to planting 100 million trees by 2030. The group has planted 29.52 million trees out of the 100 million total. It is one of the most ambitious corporate pledges made internationally and the most significant 1t.org pledge in India to date, according to a statement from the organization. It was made on the World Economic Forum’s “Trillion Trees Platform.”
The 1t.org effort supports the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, a global movement to save, restore, and cultivate a trillion trees by 2030. It seeks to halt climate change and advance sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, and climate change goals by eliminating significant amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The chairman of the Adani Group, Gautam Adani, said in a statement that the organization’s “simply inspiring” goal of planting a trillion trees was a feat of scale and is a testament to humanity’s resiliency and what can be accomplished by the combined strength of like-minded individuals who are willing to fight for a cause.
“Building a greener world requires restoring ecosystems, reversing biodiversity loss, and reducing soil erosion. In this context, I am pledging that the Adani Group will plant 100 million trees by 2030 as part of India’s declaration to lead in its commitment at Paris COP 21 to create additional carbon sinks of 2.5-3.0 billion tonnes of CO2,” he said.
