Green Energy Giga Complex in Jamnagar in H2 2024
In a groundbreaking development, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has announced its plans to commission the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat, during the second half of 2024. The complex spread across 5,000 acres, signifies a monumental step towards a sustainable and clean energy future.
The Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex is a colossal initiative featuring five giga factories dedicated to various aspects of green energy production. These include facilities for photovoltaic panels, a fuel cell system, green hydrogen, energy storage, and power electronics. The complex’s holistic approach positions it as one of the largest integrated renewable energy manufacturing facilities globally.
Reliance’s Commitment to New Energy Transition
After announcing a 10.9% rise in consolidated profit after tax (PAT) for the October-December 2023 quarter, RIL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Mukesh Ambani, expressed confidence in the New Energy Giga Complex. Ambani stated, “Reliance’s New Energy business will play a pivotal role in the global movement for the adoption of cleaner fuels.” The commissioning is set to occur in phases throughout the second half of the calendar year 2024.
RIL has strategically invested in ten global technology innovators, showcasing expertise across the new energy value chain. Among these investments, a significant collaboration with Suzhou Maxwell Technologies from China stands out. Through REC Solar, RIL has inked a supply pact, acquiring a high-efficiency production line for HJT cells with a capacity of 4.8 GW. Additionally, a 5.2GW HJT module automation production pact with SC Solar was signed in January 2023.
Reliance’s commitment to green energy is further highlighted by its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat government. The agreement outlines plans for a 100-gigawatt renewable power facility, backed by a substantial ₹5 lakh crore capital expenditure (capex). Moreover, RIL has received in-principle approval for 74,750 hectares of land parcels in Kutch for a green hydrogen project.
