The Minister of New and Renewable Energy for the Union, R. K. Singh, issued an order requiring the Industry to establish targets under the Green Open Access Rules 2022 last week.
The government notified the Green Open Access Rules 2022 in June 2023 to further accelerate India’s renewable energy initiatives. The promulgation of these laws was done to encourage the production, acquisition, and use of green energy, including that which waste-to-energy plants produce.
Additionally, it makes it possible to have a more straightforward process for open access to green power. According to an official release, Singh presided over a meeting in New Delhi on Green Energy Open Access Rules with representatives from Industry and other stakeholders.
According to the statement made by the Ministry of Power, he urged industry leaders to establish goals for greening their operations and to make use of the provisions of the Green Energy Open Access Rules to acquire green power at affordable prices.
According to Singh, the Green Energy Open Access Rules 2022 are a significant step towards India reaching its NDC (nationally determined contribution) aim of reducing emissions by 45% by 2030.
In addition, the minister requested that the sector stakeholders tell the government of any instances in which the Green Energy Open Access Rules needed to be adhered to. This was done so that the government may discuss the matter with the relevant agencies and, if necessary, take disciplinary measures.
He promised that the Industry would receive any assistance necessary to adopt the Green Energy Open Access Rules.
