This collaboration, signed between the Institute of Strategic & International Studies Malaysia (ISIS Malaysia) and the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), marks a significant milestone in regional green economic development.

The partnership, unveiled at the ‘India’s Act East Policy in the Second Decade’ conference in Kuala Lumpur, aligns with the broader India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, reinforcing both nations’ shared commitment to a net-zero future.

  • Scaling Up Green Finance – Facilitating cross-border investments in emerging sustainable technologies, carbon markets, and climate-resilient commodities.

  • Strengthening Regional Climate Governance – Promoting ASEAN-South Asia dialogues to ensure an inclusive, job-intensive energy transition.

Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Faiz Abdullah, Chairman of ISIS Malaysia, emphasized the urgency of climate action:

“The Indo-Pacific region faces growing climate challenges—rising sea levels, erratic weather patterns, and resource depletion threaten our economies. But instead of waiting for solutions, we lead with action. India and ASEAN nations are responsible for pioneering sustainability through technology sharing, green financing, and capacity building.”

Dr Dhruba Purkayastha, Direct” r at CEEW, highlighted the importance of collaboration beyond policy frameworks:

“This MoU strengthens Indo-ASEAN cooperation on green economic leadership. Governments set the foundation, but real progress requires collective action. By aligning policy, industry, and community efforts, we ensure sustainability is not just a national goal but a global priority.”
