GCCI and SALT Forge Partnership to Champion India’s Circular Economy

GCCI and SALT Alliances Sign Landmark MoU to Host Five Editions of GREENS Expo

In a decisive step toward accelerating India’s transition to a sustainable and resource-efficient future, the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) and SALT Alliances have inked a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly organize five editions of the Global Recycling Expo & Summit (GREENS) — a pioneering platform dedicated to advancing the nation’s recycling, waste management, and circular economy ecosystem.

The first edition, GREENS 2026, will be held from June 4 to 6, 2026, at the Helipad Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, coinciding with World Environment Day on June 5. The summit is envisioned as more than just an event — it is a movement designed to transform how India manages its resources and positions itself as a global leader in sustainable development.

A Transformative Partnership for a Sustainable Future

The MoU between GCCI and SALT Alliances marks a defining moment in India’s industrial sustainability journey. By joining forces, both organizations aim to create a national platform that bridges the gap between business, policy, and innovation. The partnership will place India at the center of global circular economy conversations, turning sustainability from a corporate responsibility into an engine for economic growth.

SALT Alliances, known for building platforms that foster purposeful collaboration between government, industry, and civil society, will co-organize GREENS with GCCI, Gujarat’s apex industry chamber with over 75 years of leadership in business advocacy, trade promotion, and sustainable industrial practices.

“This partnership represents India’s readiness to lead the global sustainability dialogue,” said a spokesperson for GCCI. “Through GREENS, we’re enabling an ecosystem where dialogue turns into innovation and ideas into action.”

GREENS 2026: A Catalyst for the Circular Economy

GREENS 2026 is envisioned as a flagship event that will bring together the brightest minds and most influential voices from across the sustainability landscape. The summit will feature 350 exhibitors, 30 expert-led sessions, and participation from over 15,000 stakeholders, including corporates, recyclers, investors, startups, academia, and government bodies.

The expo will highlight cutting-edge solutions in:

  • Material recycling and resource recovery
  • E-waste and biomedical waste management
  • Municipal and wastewater recycling
  • Hazardous and industrial waste treatment
  • Waste-to-energy innovations
  • Air pollution control systems
  • Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and circular product design

By showcasing breakthrough technologies and fostering cross-sector collaborations, GREENS 2026 aims to transform waste into opportunity — positioning India as a global hub for sustainable innovation and green entrepreneurship.

India’s Waste Challenge and the Circular Opportunity

With 165 million metric tonnes of waste generated annually — a figure projected to rise by nearly 30% to 215 million MT by 2030 — India faces one of the world’s most pressing waste management challenges. GREENS 2026 emerges as a timely intervention, aligning industry action with national sustainability goals.

The event will serve as a platform for addressing issues of waste segregation, recycling efficiency, and responsible resource utilization, while fostering investments in clean technologies.

“India’s waste crisis can be turned into a circular opportunity,” said a spokesperson from SALT Alliances. “By adopting sustainable business models and encouraging industrial collaboration, GREENS will help India evolve from a linear economy of ‘take-make-dispose’ to a circular one of ‘reduce-reuse-recycle’.”

Gujarat: The Ideal Host for a Green Revolution

Gujarat’s progressive sustainability record makes it a natural choice for hosting GREENS 2026. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Gujarat treats 85% of its municipal solid waste, one of the highest rates in India. Under Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0, the state has successfully remediated 95% of its legacy waste — nearly 210 lakh MT across 140 dumpsites.

The state’s leadership in renewable energy, waste-to-energy projects, and ship recycling has made it a beacon for circular industrial practices. By hosting GREENS 2026, Gujarat reinforces its role as India’s innovation hub for environmental transformation and climate resilience.

Aligning with National and Global Goals

GREENS 2026 is strategically aligned with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and its Net Zero by 2070 commitment. By driving collaboration, policy dialogue, and technological innovation, the summit will play a key role in achieving the targets outlined under the National Resource Efficiency Policy and Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0.

The platform also mirrors global sustainability priorities such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production and Goal 13: Climate Action.

“GREENS 2026 is not just about recycling,” said the organizers. “It’s about redefining how economies grow — by decoupling development from waste generation and linking prosperity with planetary well-being.”

Circular Economy as a Driver of Growth

India’s growing emphasis on circular economy principles is reshaping the way industries approach production, waste, and value creation. GREENS 2026 aims to make this transformation tangible by offering businesses the tools, partnerships, and insights needed to adopt circular models.

Through expert sessions, technology showcases, and cross-sector networking, the summit will help industries reimagine product design, promote repair and reuse, and unlock new business opportunities in the green innovation space.

It is also expected to drive job creation in recycling, logistics, clean technology, and green manufacturing — sectors that will form the backbone of India’s emerging climate economy.

Empowering Industry and Society for a Circular Future

The GCCI-SALT partnership underlines a broader national effort to democratize sustainability. By convening diverse stakeholders — from policymakers and startups to NGOs and citizens — GREENS seeks to build a shared understanding of how collective action can accelerate systemic change.

“India is uniquely positioned to lead the global circular economy movement,” said Amit Chudasama, one of the lead conveners of the initiative. “GREENS will be a confluence of ideas, innovation, and investment — a space where the circular vision becomes an industrial and social reality.”

A Vision Beyond 2026

While GREENS 2026 is the immediate focus, the MoU’s five-edition roadmap ensures continuity, scaling, and measurable impact over the coming decade. Each edition will build upon the last, tracking progress, fostering innovation, and expanding India’s leadership role in sustainable industry transformation.

By institutionalizing this event series, GCCI and SALT Alliances aim to establish a long-term ecosystem for circular economy innovation — ensuring that green growth becomes the new normal across India’s industrial sectors.

Shaping a Greener Tomorrow

The signing of the MoU between GCCI and SALT Alliances is more than a ceremonial agreement — it’s a vision statement for a future where economic growth, environmental protection, and social well-being coexist harmoniously.

As India prepares to host GREENS 2026, the nation stands on the brink of a transformative journey — one that will redefine waste as wealth, innovation as action, and sustainability as shared prosperity. With collaboration, commitment, and creativity at its core, the GREENS initiative is set to make India a global model for circular economy success — proving that when industry and environment move together, progress is truly sustainable.
