Climate Change Performance Index 2023 places India as the top-ranked G20 nation

India is the “highest-ranked G20 country according to the Climate Change Performance Index 2023,” and it is also the “5th best-performing country globally,” according to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das, who mentioned it while speaking at the 17th KP Hormis Memorial Lecture.

Das stated that our need for energy could increase significantly given that India is anticipated to continue having one of the world’s fastest-expanding economies. Hence, our task would be to fulfill the expected growth in energy demand while accelerating the switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. The RBI governor stated, “India is leading global efforts to resolve these concerns through international organizations such as the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI)4”. With the significant investments in infrastructure made in recent years, the Governor added, “Climate proofing of our infrastructure has also been a priority.

The G20, which accounts for 85% of global GDP and 75% of international trade, was put to the test, according to the Governor, by the ongoing global crisis.
