BASF & Sika Unveil Sustainable Epoxy Hardener

BASF and Sika Launch Sustainable Epoxy Hardener for Greener Construction

The construction industry is witnessing a breakthrough in sustainable materials as BASF and Sika unveil Baxxodur® EC 151, a next-generation sustainable epoxy hardener. Designed to enhance Durability while significantly reducing environmental impact, this low-emission innovation is set to redefine flooring applications across industrial, commercial, and parking spaces.

New Low-Emission Epoxy Solution Enhances Durability & Efficiency

Baxxodur EC 151 offers up to 90% fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than traditional epoxy hardeners. This eco-friendly formulation improves indoor air quality while maintaining high-performance standards, including:

✔️ Fast curing at low temperatures (as low as 5°C), making it ideal for year-round application.

✔️ Superior flow properties for easy and even application, requiring less thinning agents.

✔️ Durability against mechanical and chemical stress, extending product lifespan and reducing maintenance costs.

✔️ High-gloss, colour-stable finish that resists hazing and clouding.

A Game-Changer for Sustainable Flooring Solutions

Developed through a strategic partnership between Sika and BASF, Baxxodur EC 151 is already integrated into Sikafloor® coatings, offering customers an efficient and resource-saving solution.

With the global shift toward green construction, this sustainable epoxy hardener aligns with LEED v4 and Emicode M1 standards, supporting industry-wide sustainability goals.

BASF & Sika: Leading the Green Transformation

“This development is a testament to our commitment to green transformation, enabling customers to meet efficiency and sustainability targets,” said Vasilios Galanos, Senior VP, BASF.

Sika’s Urs Burckhardt echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that the collaboration has yielded an innovative solution that supports resource-efficient construction practices.

With sustainable epoxy solutions like Baxxodur EC 151, BASF and Sika are pioneering eco-friendly advancements that will shape the future of construction.
