How FlexForward Turns OOH Waste into Community Empowerment

In a bold move towards sustainability, Publicis OOH India, a division of Publicis Groupe India, has launched the FlexForward initiative. This groundbreaking program is reimagining the lifecycle of vinyl flexes used in Out-of-Home (OOH) advertising, addressing environmental challenges while empowering communities. With its unique approach to waste reduction, FlexForward is setting a new standard for corporate responsibility in the advertising world.  

From Billboards to Empowerment

Vinyl flexes, the printable plastic material commonly used for banners and hoardings, often end up in landfills, contributing to significant environmental degradation. Through FlexForward, Publicis OOH India collaborates with leading NGOs such as Goonj to collect post-campaign flexes and repurpose them into eco-friendly utility items. These include rain tarps, tote bags, and women’s utility pouches, which are then distributed among underserved communities.

The initiative actively involves local communities in workshops where the collected flexes are cleaned, cut, and converted into practical, reusable products.

A Measurable Impact 

FlexForward’s efforts have already yielded impressive results. Over 7 lakh square feet of flex in Mumbai and 5 lakh square feet in Delhi have been collected and repurposed, preventing tonnes of waste from being dumped in landfills. These figures highlight the initiative’s potential to scale and make a meaningful difference across India.  

In addition to reducing waste, the program has successfully fostered awareness about sustainability within local communities. By engaging residents in the collection, transformation, and distribution processes, FlexForward inspires collective action toward a greener future.
