Heidelberg Materials Unveils evoBuild: A Global Brand for Low-Carbon and Circular Products

A Global Brand for Low-Carbon and Circular Products

Heidelberg Materials, a leader in the heavy building materials industry, has launched its new global product brand, evoBuild, which offers low-carbon and circular products. Characterized by their robust sustainability credentials, evoBuild products undergo rigorous scrutiny to ensure compliance with stringent sustainability criteria. This initiative marks a significant milestone for Heidelberg Materials as it sets a new standard in the industry by utilizing globally standardized measures to label sustainable products across its operations worldwide.

Dr. Dominik von Achten, Chairman of the Managing Board of Heidelberg Materials, emphasizes the strategic importance of harmonizing the company’s sustainable product portfolio on a global scale. He notes, “After rolling out our new corporate brand Heidelberg Materials, in more than 20 countries, harmonizing our strong, sustainable product portfolio on a global level is the next logical and important step.” The introduction of evoBuild aligns with the company’s overarching commitment to providing sustainable solutions to its customers, building upon the success of the evoZero brand, which debuted as the world’s first carbon-captured net-zero cement.

A Framework for Sustainability

Dr. Nicola Kimm, Chief Sustainability Officer at Heidelberg Materials, underscores the significance of the evoBuild launch in enhancing transparency and advancing the company’s sustainability strategy. She remarks, “The launch of evoBuild means that we are now applying the same clear criteria for sustainable products to all our Group companies around the world. The consistent evoBuild tiering is based on our sustainability strategy and significantly increases transparency towards our customers and stakeholders.”

evoBuild products encompass a wide range of offerings across all business lines, each adhering to specific sustainability criteria. These products are categorized as either low-carbon (such as cement and concrete), circular (including concrete), or a combination of both attributes. Low-carbon products must achieve a minimum CO2 reduction of 30% compared to the reference value, while circular products must incorporate at least 30% recycled aggregates or reduce material requirements by 30%.

With the launch of evoBuild, Heidelberg Materials solidifies its position as an industry leader committed to driving sustainable innovation. The introduction of globally standardized criteria for labeling sustainable products underscores the company’s dedication to transparency and accountability in its sustainability efforts. By aiming to generate 50% of its revenue from sustainable products by 2030, Heidelberg Materials is committed to promoting environmental stewardship and driving positive change within the building materials industry.
