Eleven Climate Biotech Startups Win Up to ₹50 Lakh From C-CAMP

Philanthropic Seed Capital Now Matches BIRAC's Ceiling for Indian Bio-Climate Startups

As climate biotech moves from bench to pilot, philanthropic trusts are starting to write cheques once left to public grant schemes.

Eleven Indian biology-driven climate startups will draw up to ₹50 lakh each from a C-CAMP programme backed by the Ashraya Hastha Trust (AHT). The ticket matches the ceiling of the government's flagship early-stage biotech grant.

Trust Capital Arrives at the Same Ceiling as BIRAC

The Bengaluru-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms named the cohort on 29 September under its Call for Climate Solutions 2026. BIRAC's Biotechnology Ignition Grant also caps support at ₹50 lakh over 18 months, according to its scheme guidelines. AHT's money therefore adds a second channel at that stage rather than a larger cheque. C-CAMP says support may rise for solutions nearing deployment, the stage where early grant funding typically runs out.

Six of Eleven Slots Go to Health and Agriculture

Five selections fall under environment, covering biofuels, bioplastics and allied green-tech. Three sit under climate and health, including Genepath Diagnostics, and three under agriculture, including Intello Labs and String Bio. That split tilts the cohort toward adaptation uses such as disease surveillance and crop resilience, not only industrial substitution.

What to Watch

C-CAMP has not published instrument terms for the cohort, so it is still unclear whether this is grant or equity capital. The next signals are which startups qualify for the higher near-deployment tranche, and whether AHT or a co-investor commits follow-on money.
